Revealed Books in the Quran
Belief in the revealed holy books is one of the articles of faith in Islam. The Quran declares this belief as an act of righteousness by saying: “It is righteousness to believe in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Books and the Messengers…” (2:177)
The Holy Quran mentions only some of the revealed books that include Zabur revealed to Hazrat Dawood, Torah revealed to Hazrat Musa, Injil revealed to Hazrat Isa, and the Quran revealed to the beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The Quran also mention some Suhaf (scrolls) to be given to Musa (A.S) and Ibrahim (A.S).
The Quran defines at another place true Muslims are the ones who believe in Quran as well as other Books: “And who believe in what has been revealed to you, (O Muhammad), and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain in faith.” (2:4)
Purpose of Revelations – Belief in the Holy Books
Revelations are delivered to all Messengers so they could convey it to their people and direct them to the straight path, so they don’t argue on the Day of Judgement that they did not receive guidance. All revealed books contain the same basic concepts about the Oneness of God (Tawheed), worship of Allah, belief in the Prophethood, the Day of Judgement and the conception of reward and punishment. Divine scriptures were a complete code of life for the specified nation, whereas the Quran is for the entire humanity and people of all times. It deals with every aspect of life: social, economic, moral, and legal.
The Quran confirms the statements of the previous books that contained performing Salah, Zakah and fast, including other primary human rights such as rights of parents and neighbours etc.

Belief in the Holy Books
Briefly explain why Allah revealed different books from time to time.
Humans are the best creation of Allah. Also, He created everything on earth for human beings that has some purpose. Humans, as Allah’s creation, are always in need of Divine guidance because Satan is forever engaged in misguiding man as declared by the Quran by Allah:
God has been sending His direction by the Prophets from time to time to guide man to the Right Path. So the revelation of Divine books is also a part of the guidance. Quran verifies the existence of these Divine books and the Prophets to whom it was revealed. Like, Suhuf- e- Ibrahim was given to Hazrat Ibrahim, Torah to Hazrat Musa, Zabur to Hazrat Daud, Injil was sent to Hazrat Isa, and the last book Holy Quran, itself was given to Muhammad PBUH.
Through these books, all messengers invited their communities towards the belief in the same existence of Allah and his Unity in all aspects. Thus, the man acknowledged the Glory of Allah that he was unaware of. Moreover, a man got guidance from the Laws of Allah that Allah desired from the humans to obey.
Unfortunately, all the old scriptures were altered by the followers who distorted and perverted the words of Allah and changed their meaning. From time to time, the progress of revelation continued according to the changing times and circumstances till Muhammad SAW’s era.
Surah An-Nahl Ayat 101
“When We substitute one revelation for another – and God knows best what He reveals (in stages).”
Eventually, when God saw that the spiritual evolution of human beings was near perfection. He sent His last message at the final sermon of Prophet SAW as part of the Divine decree to which the Quran refer as:
“Today I have perfected for you your religion, fulfilled on you My favor, and approved Islam as your religion.”
The text of the Quran is universal in scope and is sent for all humans. Hence, the Quran sums up all the authentic teachings of the old scriptures. The responsibility of guardianship of the Quran is taken by Allah Himself that He would protect the content of this book until the end of time.
